Tenerife Resorts - Los Gigantes, Puerto de Santiago, Playa De La Arena

Wednesday, 11th November 2009

These three resorts are close neighbours. Located on the attractive coast of Santiago Del Tiede, the resorts are about 25 miles North West of Tenerife South Airport, and about 20 miles North West of Playa de las Americas, and Los Cristianos.

The area is on the Santiago Del Tiede coast, stunningly beautiful with a perfect year round sub tropical climate. Many visitors believe the climate is the best in the Canary Archipelago.

Los Gigantes (The Giants) is named after the massive cliffs that dominate the shoreline. It is best to go on a boat trip around the coast to appreciate the scale of the cliffs, some of which are 800 metres high. The town itself is pretty, welcoming and friendly, and boasts a magnificent Marina. Development has been controlled to retain its outstanding character.

Puerto de Santiago is an atmospheric small fishing village, with volcanic sand beaches, one with a Blue Flag accreditation. There are a large number of bars and restaurants along Santiago Bay.

Playa de la Arena has one of the finest beaches in Tenerife. It is also a blue flag beach, and quite beautiful, with natural volcanic sand beach. There are various other beaches in the area, which never get overcrowded. The resort is situated on a hill top, so visitors with mobility difficulties are advised to stay at Los Gigantes or Puerto de Santiago. The views from Playa de la Arena are stunning. On a clear day, the Island of Gomera can be seen.

Given the beauty and the popularity of the area, there are many up market hotels available.

There is a large choice of excellent restaurants in the area, where most kinds of cuisine can be found.  Needless to say, the Fish and Seafood here is fantastic.
