Tenerife Resorts - Callao Salvaje
Wednesday, 11th November 2009
Callao Salvaje is one of the newest resorts on the south west coast of Tenerife, the Adeje region, located less than 16 miles from Tenerife South Airport, and only 8 miles or so to the resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. The town is small, and very quiet, a perfect place to “chill out” and relax. Alternatively, it is a perfect base to visit other resorts and see Tenerife.
Until a few years ago, Callao Salvaje was largely unknown, and did not even appear on many maps. The decision taken to develop the village as a tourist resort has transformed the area. However, planning restrictions have been put in place to avoid spoiling the area.
Callao Salvage does not have a beach. There is a rocky cove, which has a small natural volcanic sandy beach. An artificial beach is under construction, which will have golden sand, but this will not be completed until 2010.
Getting to a beach is not a problem. There is a lovely beach at Fanabe, which is only ten minutes away by car or taxi. The fantastic beaches at Playa de las Americas are only 15 minutes away by taxi. There are also buses to both Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos.
Several golf courses are available within a few minutes’ drive. A trip to Mount Tiede and the National Park is a must for visitors with a car.
There are shops and other facilities in the town, and a good choice of restaurants serving nice food at very reasonable prices. Several restaurants are by the sea, offering lovely views. Many visitors will take the short drive to Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos for the enormous choice of beaches and entertainment available there.
The wide range of attractions available at Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are all close by and easily reached. Callao Salvaje is perfect for visitors who want a quiet and peaceful holiday base, but still be close to the facilities of the large resorts nearby.
